Overview

caution

This documentation describes the legacy version of the Explore Tool. We've built a new and improved version in our latest iteration of the web-tool. To find out more about this please check out our new Explore Tool article.

The explore tool lets you play with your data, and build visualisations of your predefined metrics and your custom metrics as you see fit. With it you can:

  • View core metrics, event metrics and custom metrics tracked by the GameAnalytics servers.
  • Change visualisation options based on aggregation, graph types, grouping and axis orders.
  • Look at as many dimensions as you like through multidimensional filtering.
  • Make comparisons between two different visualisations.
  • Save your visualisations as queries, which you can run in the coming days and weeks.
  • Export data to CSV to manipulate your data however you like.

Why use the Explore Tool?

The explore tool is a powerful feature of GameAnalytics and there are a number of reasons you may want to use the tool;

Dig deeper into your data

The explore tool lets you go beyond the predefined dashboards that GameAnalytics offers, and gain greater insights into your data. For instance, let’s say you wish to look at your how many players are failing level 10 in your game over a period of time, and which devices these players are from… The explore tool would have covered. The tool gives you the ability to visualise your data to your needs as a studio or a publisher!

Run queries on your explore tool

Let’s say there is a specific set of metrics or dimensions you wish to keep track of on a regular basis. With queries, you can save the time of having to select these each time. Instead, you can query the metrics or dimensions you want to see, as well as set the date range that you would like to see (such as yesterday, the past 7 days or the past 30 days). This explore tool gives you deep insights into your game data, with minimal effort.

Filtering by multiple dimensions

The explore tool also provides multidimensional filtering, which lets you select as many dimensions as you would like at one time. You could have dimensions such as country, devices, build and OS versions at your disposal, as you look for the insights you’re after. You can add these dimensions on your visualisation in a matter of seconds, allowing you to focus more on the data in front of you, and not on pressing multiple buttons.
