Metrics

NameDescription
RetentionPercentage of users that played the game before, and have returned to the game.
Retention is calculated on a calendar day basis, and a day in our terms starts and ends from 00:00 - 23:59 UTC. If a player installs at 23:35 and keeps playing until after 00:00 (UTC), they will be counted as retained for D1.
We use classic retention not rolling, which means that if a user installs on day D and plays again 7 days later, they will only be counted as retained for D7 and not in the days in between.
The retention metric allows you to view retention for D1 through D7, D14, D21, D28, D60, D90.

NameDescription
CountrySegment the data and choose from a list of 36 countries.
Based on your selection, you will only see information of how that game/app is performing in the chosen country.
QuantilesA quantile is a number that represents the significance of data.
The term comes from statistics and means "a fraction" because it divides samples into equal parts or groups, called subgraphs.
It can also refer to dividing probability distribution into areas with same likelihoods for events happening on either side (probabilities).
GameAnalytics supports 9 quantiles:
  • Bottom 25%
  • Median 50%
  • Top 75%
  • Top 15%
  • Top 10%
  • Top 5%
  • Top 4%
  • Top 3%
  • Top 2%
For example if your game/app is in the top 10% range, it would mean it performs better than 90% of other apps out there.
Keep in mind the data present here is coming from statistical models, and that the numbers you see on each of the quantiles are merely the highest recorded value.
PlatformThe platforms you would like to view the data from. At the moment only Apple App Store data is available.
RegionFilter data by geographical regions.
IAP SpendersAverage percentage of users that complete an IAP transaction, from the total number of users.

Game categorization

Benchmarks allows you to filter what type of games you are browsing for with highly specific sub-genres. You can either choose from default App store categorizations, or from the custom list of genres and subgenres we have provided.

Here is a full breakdown of the game categories you can explore:

  • App store - reflects the real store genres/categories utilized by Apple.
  • Subgenres - which are categories that we have constructed ourselves, and offer a more in depth segmentation of the game genres.

Network stats

The data that is available in Benchmarks comes from the GameAnalytics service, and it is passed through a statistical model to display an aggregated representation of the numbers.

The GameAnalytics network is extensive, with an all time integrated game count of 140,000, more than 1 billion average unique monthly users, and 1.5 billion cross-title monthly players, with an average monthly session number of 25+ billion sessions.
